CNR - ISMAR (Istituto di Scienze MARine)

The Istituto di Biologia del Mare was established in 1946 as the National Center of Talassographic Studies.
The Institute's purpose was to carry out research activity in biological oceanography and marine and lagoon biology, both as basic and applied research.
The Institute was actively involved in national and international programs on oceanography, environment and aquaculture. The Institute organized oceanographic cruises for hydrological, planktological and sedimentological researches and hosts young scientists for on-the-job training and undergraduates working on their theses.
Since 2001 the Istituto di Biologia del Mare has bocome part of the Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR).
