Rete Mareografica Nazionale

The entrance in vigor of the L. 183/89 on the defense of the ground and of the two DPR 85/91 and 106/93 had sanctioned the birth and characterized the tasks of the Dipartimento per i Servizi Tecnici Nazionali (DSTN) in the within of the Prime Minister's Office. From this event the Servizio Idrografico e Mareografico Nazionale (SIMN) received an impulse that, beyond promoting of an incisive action in the properly hydrographical field, considerable widened the activities in the marine field of it. Task of the SIMN was to supply to the systematic relief and to the elaboration of the parameters relative to the marine climate, the state of shorelines and the levels navy, to supply to the systematic publication of the elements observed and elaborate and cartography and to predispose criteria, methods and standard of collection, analysis and consultation of the data relative to the cognitive activity carried out. The SIMN supplies data, opinions and advisings to anyone who request them and support the local agencies and the other public agencies and the agencies of public right. In the marine field the SIMN assumed the management of the Rete Ondometrica Nazionale (RON), realized opportunely from the Ministry of the Public Jobs, and supplied to the restructure of the Rete Mareografica Nazionale (RMN).
Currently the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA - i.e. the National Institute for Protection and Environmental Research) is in charge of of the network.
