CNR
- Istituto di Scienze Marine (ISMAR)
The Institute of Marine Science was established on 12/10/2001, for amendments to the bylaws of the CNR.
ISMAR conducts research in polar regions, oceans and the Mediterranean in order to study:
> Changes in the oceans and in the continental edges to define the activity of volcanoes, faults and submarine landslides, and scenarios for coastal impact
> The influence of climate change on ocean circulation, acidification, bio-geochemical cycles and productivity of the seas
> Habitats and marine ecology, the increasing pollution of coastal and deep areas
> Fisheries resources, in order to maintain their exploitation within sustainable limits and improve the practices of aquaculture and mariculture
> The natural and anthropogenic factors that impact economically and socially on the coasts and lagoons from prehistory to the industrial age.
