In Venetian dialect the "tegnue" are those particular rocky substrata, typical of some zones of the Northern Adriatic sea bed. They are well known by the professional local fishermen because the "tegnue" hold back and then tear up the trawls that find themselves on their way. These formations normally reach a surface of several hundreds square metres, with heterogeneous forms and structures, and, even if normally isolated, they don’t seem to be rare. Even if they represent a very little part of the surface of the sea bed, the “tegnue” are an important “oasis” for fish species typical of “hard” substrata, increasing biological diversity, offering a bigger number of ecological niches and represent an excellent shelter during the reproductive phases of a great deal of sea organisms.
